Course Objectives The aim of this course is to give general information about the basic concepts of pharmacology, drug doses, guidelines of giving drugs and effects of drugs
Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • • describe the pharmaceutical drug forms and application routes
  • • explain the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodinamic features of the drugs
  • • list the factors that change the effects of drugs
  • • Identify systemic drugs (cardiovascular system, respiratory system, digestive system, genitourinary system, nervous system, endocrine system) that are commonly used in elderly care
  • • Describe the effects and side effects of commonly used medicines in elderly care
Course Description Introduction to Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Drug Forms, Drug Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism and Excretion of drugs, İnteractions of drugs in the body, The harmful effects of drugs and complications, Gastrointestinal system drugs, Cardiovascular drugs, Respiratory system drugs, Autonomic Nervous System drugs, Central Nervous System drugs, endocrine affect the function of drugs in the elderly, Renal function and electrolyte metabolism supporting drugs, Chemotherapies, insulin and hypoglycemic drugs in elderly care , Prescription reading and evaluation.
